OUR WONDERFUL PAC

What is PAC and why should I get involved?

Parent Advisory Council (PAC) is a fun, active group of dedicated parents, and a great way to get involved in the Harwood Community and its many activities and initiatives.

Decision-making is by group consensus of the members. However, meetings are open to all parents and anyone can request items to be placed on the agenda.

We often invite guest speakers to address concerns parents might have or just to talk about things that might benefit the school. Agendas and minutes of each meeting are posted on the PAC notice board by the office.

There is a LOT happening at Harwood, and many ways for parents and community members to get involved! If you have a regular schedule, consider volunteering for a weekly or monthly task during or after school. Or, look at our newsletter you can pick out an event that occurs when you have free time. There's sure to be an activity you'll enjoy or a cause you can support. Volunteering and fundraising are great ways to get to know your child’s school, the terrific staff, and other students and families in the Harwood community.

Harwood PAC meets on the third Wednesday of each month,
7:00 to 9:00pm in the PAC Meeting Room. Coffee and goodies are provided.
Free child minding is available.

Ongoing Fundraisers

We are currently collecting Butcher Boys Receipts, Canadian Tire Money and Campbells Labels to support our school's needs.

Please send any of the above with your child to be entered into their class bin.  At the end of the month, the class that has accumulated the most will win a special gift (pizza party, ice cream party, etc.) from the PAC.

If you would like more details on what Campbells labels we are collecting, please visit http://www.labelsforeducation.ca/english/.

Safe Arrival Program:

We would like to take a moment of your time to explain to you what our "Safe Arrival Program" is and how it works. This program has been organized by PAC and is run by parent volunteers. The program is designed to account for all students who are absent or late from school.

There is a designated phone line with an answering machine to record your messages. Please call if your child will be absent or late. There will be a parent volunteer at the school each morning to receive these messages from the answering machine. The volunteer will then compare these to the absentees marked on the attendance boards and then contact the home and/or work numbers of all the unaccounted students.

Please remember that this phone number is for Safe Arrival only .

If you call to let us know that your child will be absent or late, it saves a lot of valuable follow-up time.

Safe Arrival: 250-542-4120

Please be aware that anyone who has not phoned will get a call to ensure that their child is home safe.

If you are interested in being one of our parent volunteers or you have any questions regarding this program, please contact the school.
